LMR33630: How to put an output PPTC?

Part Number: LMR33630

Hi,

I want using the LMR33630 in my USB Charger, and a PPTC on output for protect.

So I have a question, Which configuration is the best?

1. L - C1 - PPTC -C2 - out

2. L - PPTC - C1 - out

3. L - C1 - PPTC - out

I think the 2 is the best way for load regulation, but I don't know if LMR33630 need low ESR Cap to maintain stability.

(PPTC have ESR about 0.2 ohm)

Thanks for your answers.

  • Hello Weilin,

Keep as much of the output capacitance as possible as close to the inductor, not the other side of the PPTC. If the PPTC is triggered and RFBT is connected to the load side of the PPTC, output voltage will go very high. If the load regulation on the load side of the PPTC is good, consider using a DC offset to recenter your supply.
