TPS92692: Is have the same performance as TPS92602

Part Number: TPS92692

Hi :

I have developed TPS92602 Boost to battery and Boot topology solution completely by using PWM and analog dimming. Now I have one channel solution request for boost and boost to battery. I want to leverage the experience of TPS92602 to TPS92692. Dose TPS92692 have the same or similar performance on low dimming, PWM dimming, analog dimming? We very concern about low dimming performance, as we test TPS92602 can low to 0.1mA when use PWM dimming. Dose TPS92692 have the same performance on low dimming when use PWM dimming?

Best regards

Janson

  • Hello Janson,

I'm not real familiar with the TPS92602 but looking at the datasheet makes it appear that the TPS92692 will be comparable dimming wise. 10:1 analog for TPS92602, 15:1 for the TPS92692 and there are three ways to PWM dim the TPS92692. Using the internal PWM generator and applying a 1V to 3V analog signal, directly PWMing the IC and then series FET dimming.

It is a different IC so the design interface will probably change according to how it operates.

  • Hi Irwin :

May I know the main architecture of these two is the same or not? I know function and interface is a little different. I don't know very well about analog dimming 15:1 contrast ratio, could you help to explain?

    Best regards

    Janson

  • Hello Janson,

The architecture of these two parts is similar.  They both can regulate current via peak current mode control.  The performance of the TPS92692 for driving LED current will have better performance since that is what it is designed for.  I was just stating that the analog dim range is greater on the TPS92692.  The TPS92692 has more features that can be used for LED current regulation and fault protection.
