BQ24616: What if BATFET failed, will it disconnect the input supply through ACDRV and ACFET.

Part Number: BQ24616

Hi Folks,

I am using the BQ24616 reference circuit given in datasheet for charging the 16.8 Battery pack. The circuit works fine, but I have below queries regarding the fault conditions.

1. As mentioned in thread title If BATFET (BATDRV) fails or short circuited, does the input power disconnects?

2. If battery polarity reversed how BQ24616 handles the situation?

3. What is the protection for overcharging?

Thank you in advance

Regards,

Nitin

  • Regarding 1, the device does not detect BATFET short.
Regarding 2, the device does not have battery polarity reverse plug in protection.
Regarding 3, the device has integrated battery overvoltage protection. Please refer to the datasheet page 16 section 8.3.14
