TPS82150: Minimum output capacitance

Part Number: TPS82150

Hello all,

I am working with a customer who is interested in using the TPS82150 as a 12V input, 3.3V output, ~1W load and using an 0402 10uF output capacitor. Capacitor Part number: GRJ155R60J106ME11D.

Is there any potential issues with using less than the 22uF recommended in the device datasheet?

Capacitor Datasheet:

Thank you,

Jon

  • Hi Jon,

It looks like that cap gives just 3.5 uF effective C at 3.3V bias voltage. This is too low.

Any capacitance on the output, including any present at the load, helps and counts towards the sum.

I recommend a minimum 50% of the nominal 22uF to be present at the output.
