BQ20Z45-R1: Cannot Get Update Status to Change to 06 or 0E: It Stays At 04

Part Number: BQ20Z45-R1

We have done several cycles and the update status stays at 04.  We followed the document on how to create the golden file using C/5 and we have tried it charging and discharging at 2A.  Attached is the .gg and the log file.

  • VOK was updated correctly which means Qmax must be updated if the gauge didn't meet Qmax disqualification reason.
    Charging terminatin voltage was around 4.08V in your log file. Was this chemID created by maximum 4.1V (0 DOD = 4.1 V) ?
    Qmax update requires 90% passed charge of DOD in learning cycle.
    Which chemID did you use ?

    It is hard to analyze the log since the data was not aligned. Would you post the log after alining the column from the next ?
  • The chem id was 2068 (Samsung 25R).  

    I am not sure what you mean by the data was not aligned?  Aligning the column from the next?  The two logs are two different attempts of getting the status to change.  But, these are just two of the logs for we have attempted at least 6-8 times.

  • ChemID2068 was created based on 4.2V. So, you have to charge the battery cell by 4.2V to meet 90% passed DOD condition.

    Please, change your gg cofiguration to charge up to 4.2V.

    If you take a look at the log file,the data was shifted to left or right.

  • We were purposely under-charging to reduce the capacity of the battery. We have done this before with (TIs help) and has worked with other product lines. It just does not seem to work with this particular configuration. 4S2P, 4S3P (other cell manufacturers), and 4S4P all behave as expected when under-charging.

    I will adjust the data. I am not sure how the data got shifted.
  • If you failed a learning cycle, one of the way is using GPCRA tool in ti.com. The purpose of learning cycle is to learn a Qmax and Ra data.
    GPCRA can calculate Ra and Qmax.
    It looks you followed the learning cycle procedure correctly.
    Please, make sure
    1. Send Reset command before starting discharge. It will make RUP_DIS = 1
    2. Once you complete the discharge, relax the cell
    3. send IT_Enable comman before starting charging(VOK = QEN =1)
