TLV62150: Out Cap selection for TLV62150?

Part Number: TLV62150

Hi All,

I am using TLV62150 to power a GSM module in a radio system, 4.2Vout and 500mA peak current. I would like to use 2 caps in parallel 477uF each (So around 1000uF in total). Caps p/n: TPSD477K006R0200. Do you think this might create a problem to power a GSM module? In the ds I see you used a 22uF cap...

Many Thanks,

Antonio

  • Hi Antonio,

Why does he want to use so much and these specific caps? Is this coming as a recommendation from the GSM module?

I recommend keeping a single 22 uF ceramic at the DC/DC output to absorb the ripple current with low impedance.

The transient response of the TLV62150 is very fast, so I don't think those bigger caps will actually help anything. They have 200 mOhm of ESR which is quite high.

I cannot comment on how these caps will function with the GSM module. They should be ok for the TLV62150, since they are tantalum and have some ESR which makes a zero in the control and helps stability. Otherwise, so much ceramic cap is not recommended per this app note, found in the D/S: www.ti.com/.../slva463a.pdf
