BQ28Z610: Cycle Count Update

Part Number: BQ28Z610

Hello,

My question is about the cycle count parameter not incrementing. I am running a bq28z610 fuel gauge in 1S mode. I have fully charged a cell, passing through the cycle count percentage (which I have set to 90%), and discharged the cell below 90%. However, the cycle count does not increment. According to the TRM, the cycle count state is defined as follows in 13.6.10:

As previously stated, cycle count percentage has been set to 90%. I have passed through this threshold in both directions (charge/discharge) with no effect on the cycle count. Is there something else the cycle count is dependent upon that the fuel gauge is looking for?

  • Hi,

Have you enabled IT? The thresholds are based off your design capacity. So, please make sure that is consistent with Qmax and FCC.
  • Hi Batt,

Thank you for the suggestion. I can confirm that ITEN was enabled during the cycle test, as seen below:

I ran another charge on the cell but the cycle count did not update.

The most recent FCC is 3353mAh. The Design Capacity is 3500mAh. The CCT bit is configured as 0 (using Design Capacity by default).

Could you explain what you mean by "make sure that is consistent with Qmax and FCC"?

  • Note that Cycle Count Percentage isn't a threshold that you pass to have it counted as a cycle, it is the amount of charge that needs to be passed to have it count.  So if you have it set to 90%, you need to discharge from 100% to <10%, for example.

    Thanks,

    Terry

  • Yep, I was thinking about it differently. I changed the percentage and retested with success. Thank you Terry.
