TPS4H160-Q1: when the MCU pulls down the INx off, the TPS4H160 chip heat is severe;

Part Number: TPS4H160-Q1

Use the TPS4H160 VB version as an open-circuit short-circuit detection of the output voltage, and determine whether to supply power by sampling the CS voltage (the MCU controls INx);

Problem phenomenon:

When the MCU pulls up INx to enable the power supply, the temperature is normal; when the MCU pulls down the INx off, the chip heat is severe;

It will be hot soon. How long does it take for INx to pull down and it will become severely hot? CTM application scenario will have the port closed. That is, INx will keep pulling down.

Another question:

CTM software program is designed to :

4 channels are polled to obtain the CS of each channel and to determine the load is open or short , and then control the load is switched off accordingly;

The current phenomenon is:

If a port is powered on successfully, the device will be powered off after a few minutes. The initial test is that the CS voltage is about 6V. How long is the recommended acquisition interval for polling each channel? Is the CS voltage reliable? ?

  • Hello Seasat,

    I checked the schematic and did not see something wrong that leads to heat up the device in off state. I think the device becomes hot becasue the INX is continously switching ON and OFF. Please check it and send waverform if available.

    Do you mean 4 channels INx are pulled low at the same time? The CS reports the status of one channel according to select pins SEH and SEL. For example SEH = 0 and SEL = 0, the status of channel 1 is reported. For reporting the status on channel 2, SEH = 0 and SEL = 1. The transition delay is 50uS max. That means to report the channel status the wait time is around 50uS.

    My answers are based on my understanding of your questions. I will be ready for phone call if necessary.
