TLC59213: About Output clamp current spec

Part Number: TLC59213
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC59210

Hi,

Could you tell me about TLC59213 output clamp crrent ?
Why is the "Peak output current" and "Output clamp current" value written in negative?
This device is not a sink type.
For that reason, customers questioned this.

  • Hi, Yusuke-san,

As you may see other current sink LED drivers like TLC59210, the output current is positive.

So for this current source it's using negative.

If you think this answers your question, please help to click "Resolve".

    Thanks.

  • Kenneth-san,

    Thank you for your support.
"As you may see other current sink LED drivers like TLC59210, the output current is positive."
    However,
The TLC59210 has the same plus or minus sign.
On the other hand, TLC59213 does not match in plus or minus sign.
Customers have doubts about this mismatch.

Could you give me your advice?

  • Hi, Yusuke-san,

The output current in 6.3 should be "source current", which is not very clear.

For input clamp current of TLC59210, it's negative because VI<0, and the current is from the device to external circuit.

If you think this answers your question, please help to click "Resolve".

    Thanks.

  • Kenneth-san,

Thank you for your kind support.
I understood about input clamp current.

I would like to confirm about TLC59213 Peak output current.
Is Peak output current correct with correct understanding that it is not negative?

Customers want to check the maximum output current.
And Please tell me the background that it is written as -500 mV (negative).
    Therefore, I want your advice.

    Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • Hi, Yusuke-san.

Yes, it's 500mA peak current source capacity.

The background is the current sink uses positive, so it's negative for current source.

    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kenneth
