LP8860-Q1: I2C programming for multiple units of LP8860

Part Number: LP8860-Q1

Hi,

Considering SPI interface is unavailable, how can multiple units of LP8860-Q1 be programmed individually via I2C given that LP8860's I2C address is unique, and data and clock I2C rails are shared between the LP8860s?

Is it possible to use IF and NSS pins to create an I2C selection mechanism, so the selected IC would have IF=0, and the other ICs  would have IF=1 and NSS=1 ? Would it impact the control of faults, clearing them in inappropriate instants?

Best wishes,

  • Hello Newton,
We have not encountered the situation of more than one LP8860 device connected on the same I2C bus but the scheme you described above by having one device in the I2C mode and other in SPI mode (SPI device de-selected by SS/NSS) should work in principal. I do not anticipate any fault generation/clearing issues due to this scheme.
    Kind Regards,
    Liaqat
