LMR33630: Can I use inverting buck boost topology for following parts?

Part Number: LMR33630
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM76003, LM73605,

Hi team,

It is just clarification.  Can I use inverting buck-boost topology for following devices?

If yes, any considerations other than Vin voltage?

* LMR33630A

* LM76003

* LM73605

Best regards,

Tetsuro

  • Hello Tetsuro,

    We have experience using the LM76003 and LM73605 in this topology. The LMR33630 is relatively new so I am still checking on it.

    When designing using this topology, remember that output current is only 1-D times the inductor current so less current can be handled than a Buck using the same IC. This is particularly important if magnitude of input voltage is less than the magnitude of output voltage. A second consideration is inductance, since the 1-D introduces a right half plane zero in the feedback equations, low inductance and relatively large output capacitance is good. Again, this is particularly important if magnitude of input voltage is less than the magnitude of output voltage.
  • The LMR33630 can be used for IBB.  Please note all of the limitations that Robert has outlined above; not just votlage.
