WEBENCH® Tools/TPS54824: Unable to change Cout capacitor quantity in Webbench

Part Number: TPS54824

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

I am trying to replicate the TPS54824 datasheet Application example (1.8V @ 8A) in Webbench and I am unable to select  custom quantities for output capacitors ( 4 x 47uF). Why does Webbench not allow us to  change the component quantities, or, if it does, how?

Thanks.

  • Hello Luc,

Go to the schematic window, double click on Cout , then setup up your minimum and maximum acceptable values in the selection filter window. Find a combination that you like and select it. If you return to the schematic, it should show your new selection. I have tried this and verified that the new Cout is reflected in simulations. I have found that quantity 4 is hard to get so you can use 2 100 uF.

Please let me know if this solves your problem.
  • Hi Robert,

The problem with your solution is that it does not take into account the equivalent parallel capacitor ESR from the four 47uF capacitors... The only around this problem is to create a custom capacitor. But, I am wondering how hard could it be to add this feature (modifying the quantity) in this simulation tool?

    Thanks.

  • Hello Luc,
I will move your post to the Webench team forum.
They may be able to better address your question.
