BQ76920: how external balancing works in bq76920

Part Number: BQ76920

Hello,

How the external balancing on bq76920 works. I found this document about it. but didn't understand much. please help me how the balancing works?

  • Hi Nikhil,
Yes, section 4 of slua749 is the explanation of the analog signal path. See figures 5 and 6. In the scheduler apnote www.ti.com/.../slua775 figure 5 shows an example of signals at the IC. When connected to a low impedance source such as a cell the voltage at the cell does not change much, just has current flow into the filter network and balance path. If the battery is charging that current which is expected to be a small part of the charge current bypasses the cell.
  • Hi Nikhil,
I see you rejected the answer without comment. Please consult with a local colleague to assist understanding. You might try to simulate the circuit with your favorite simulation tool to see the current flows. I will close the thread.
