TPS7A45: About Maximum junction temperature

Part Number: TPS7A45

Hi,

Could you tell me about  Tjmax difference between TPS7A45 and TL1963.

1.Is the TJmax temp of the two LDOs correct?

2.Please tell me the reason why the two Tjmax temp are different.
   Customers want to use the LDO of Tjmax = 150℃.

Best Regards,
Yusuke/Japan Disty

  • Hi Yusuke,

    Please note that the tables you are referencing are the Absolute Maximum ratings. The Absolute Maximum ratings are driven by process and are stress ratings only. Both TPS7A45 and TL1963 are designed, characterized, and tested for operation up to 125 C as stated in the Recommended Operating Conditions tables. Neither LDO is suitable for an application where Tj is expected to exceed 125 C.

    In order for us to help recommend a suitable LDO for this application, what are your application requirements? (Vin, Vout, Iout, etc)

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
  • Ryan-san,

    Thank you for your response.
    Customers need Tj absolute maximum rating information for unforeseen circumstances.
    Please tell me why there is a difference between the two devices.

    Customer use condition is ;
    Vin=12V, Vout-5V, Iout=0.5A,(Iout peak =1.5A)

    Best Regards,
    Yusuke/Japan Disty
  • Hi Yusuke-san,

    The Absolute Maximum ratings are determined by process.

    Thank you for providing your conditions. Since you have ample headroom (Vin - Vout = 7 V) , you could consider placing a power resistor in series before the regulator. This will reduce the power being dissipated in the regulator and bring your application back within the operating conditions without adding too much complexity.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
