BQ25703A: Review the PCB files to see why the part would get hot!

Part Number: BQ25703A

Hi,

After solving the problem with the coding of the part, every thing works fine except these few issues!

when my custom designed board powered from wall adapter, it would draw about 100ma when there is no battery pack installed, and the BQ25703A would get hot, in the order of 55 degree C or more! also every command would do as expected, except the charge command, when I issue something like 1A charge current, the Battery would get about 500ma of charge current, would you please check my schematic and PCB files which areRev 3.0.zip in ALtium and PDF to see if there is any Issue out there? we need to go to production sooner.

Thanks

  • Ali,

Two layer board is too hard to optimize layout. For example: Q3 gate drive circuitry's: How does the FET's ground connect back to IC ground? A long trace with a big loop could cause trouble. This is not a small signal board. This is a switching charger power board. I would recommend 4 layer board. Use the EVM layout as reference. Also, please use vias to short the ground connection and spread heat quicker.

The switching FET (BSC100N06LS3) has a higher turn-on threshold. Would you try a low Miller plateau FET?

Also, please use copper pour to cover the Q3, Q4 and Q5 's source pins.

  • Dear Wang Li
Thanks for the Update, regarding "Use the EVM layout as reference." where can I find the files? also what MOSFET part number do you suggest?
