TPS23754: Thermal metric

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: TPS23754

Hi

According to datasheet, Tj can be obtained with following equation.

Tj = Ttop + (ψjT * P_loss)

I mean P_loss is loss of TPS23754 itself.

Ttop could be measured by thermometer.

But how to get P_loss?

If PD input is not used, is the loss which should be considered in the device would be P_gate + P_gat2 +  (I_total * Vc)?

Could you please check if my understanding is correct?

  • Hi na na78,

    Majority of the power would have been dissipated by the internal PoE pass FET. However, since your application is not using PoE, the power dissipation will come from the PWM controller. This will come from the VC pin (which powers the gates of the TPS23754 so P_gate + P_gate2 can be removed from your equation). Looking at the recommended operating conditions max being 18V and worst case 1.2mA during normal operation. Max power dissipation could be ~22mW.
