BQ34Z100-G1: I2C communication not working atfter some time of use

Hello

I have problem with bq34z100-g1. In some packs I2C stopped working, EV2300 did not recognize bq. But after reseting bq34z100 power supply everything goes back to normal.

What could be the reason ?

Hi Jaroslaw,

Could you please describe in more detail what I2C stopped working entails?

If the host is communicating, it could cause the issue.

Please also ensure that the firmware is up to date on the EV2300. If the firmware is 3.1c the EV2300 will require an update.

Hi Bryan, thank for your reply.

By "stopped working" I mean I was not able to communicate with bq34 by EV2300. SDA is always High, and SCL is low.
But after resetting REGION everything started working normally.

I have 3.1m firmware version in EV2300

Hi Jaroslaw,

How many devices are on the I2C Bus? Which device is asserting prior to reset?

In one scenario, a third device could be a device asserting the lines, whereby a reset allows the EV2300 to become the master. Please ensure other devices are not asserting the I2C lines.

There is only bq34z100-g1 and EV2300 on the I2C Bus

Hi Jaroslaw,

Please confirm that the device is properly powered and that REGIN is properly powered prior to initiating a manual reset.

Are you able to send I2C commands to the device with a MCU? Which device is pulling the lines low, EV2300 or bq34z100-g1?

Please scope this to determine which device is asserting. Thank you!

REGIN was ok,

I was not able to read anything from bq34z100-g1.

In my opinion that bq34z100-g1 holding line low.

Maybe that issue is connected with SCR ESD protection latch ?

Im using 5V6 zeners on lines, Im wondering about changing them to 3V6 for example.

Hi Jaroslaw,

Please remove the zeners from the i2c lines and test. If communication resumes, please reconfigure the circuit as needed.
