BQ25606: USB circuit D+/D-

Part Number: BQ25606

Hi,

I am currently working on the schematic of BQ25606. I am using the data sheet schematics and the user guide "Evaluation module bq25606 PWR772". However, I have doubts about the connection with USB. Does the USB port need any kind of extra circuit  or should only the D + / D- pins be connected directly to BQ25606 without any other component as shown in figure 10 of the document "Evaluation module bq25606 PWR772"?

Thank you,

Oscar

  • Hey Oscar,

You do not necessarily need an extra circuit attached to the D+/D- lines.

However, some customers have used a USB switch to toggle the D+/D- between the charger and their host MCU/processor if they cannot manage the output state of their host. In other words, this USB switch avoids having an incorrect detection by the charger by isolating the lines between the MCU and charger. But most customers can place their USB driver lines into a HIZ state until the charger finishes it's detection.

Alternatively, some customers have also found that High-Speed (or USB SuperSpeed) communication on the USB lines need to further isolated from the charger's HIZ D+/D- when it finishes the charging detection. Here they may use a USB switch or some low impedance resistors.
