UC2854: Junction Temp Datasheet Discrepancy

Part Number: UC2854

Hello E2E,

I am looking for some clarity.  It was noticed in an older datasheet (2008) that the absolute max junction temp was 150C.  In the newest datasheet lists the 150C as a max storage temp and a 85C recommended operating but no max operating.

Is the intended max junction temp 150C or 85C?

Thanks!

Russell

  • Hello Russell,
Sorry about the confusion here. TI is constantly improving data sheets for ease of understanding and for accuracy. Some of the older data sheets were sparse in information and you can see that the newer formatted datasheets have a comprehensive data section with additional standard sections on applications and recommendations for layout.
Therefore I recommend that you use SLUS336A (revised Dec 2016) for data on the UC2854.
The max junction temperature for this part is 150C but you should not operate well below this temperature because the electrical characteristics are tested and characterized from -40C to +85C

    Regards
    John
  • Hello Russell,

I believe John added an unintended word which contradicts his point.
I believe that he meant: "...you should ___ operate well below this temperature ..."

For this device, the specification table parameters are not guaranteed at junction temperatures greater than 85C.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
