BQ78350-R1: Question about this TRM description " 3.1.4 FET Action Options for Current Protections "

Part Number: BQ78350-R1

Hi

We and our customer checking about this device spec .

But We have some  question about this description.

3.1.4 FET Action Options for Current Protections
The bq78350-R1 offers the option to turn off the CHG FET during an overcurrent in discharge (OCD),
overcurrent in discharge latch (OCDL), overload (AOLD), overload latch (AOLDL) or short circuit in
discharge (ASCD), short circuit in discharge latch (ASCDL) faults, or the DSG FET in overcurrent in
charge (OCC) faults.
The CHG FET will turn off for the OCD, OCDL, AOLD, AOLDL, ASCD, and ASCDL faults when
[DC_CHG_OFF] in Protection Configuration is set.
The DSG FET will turn off for the OCC faults when [CC_DSG_OFF] in Protection Configuration is set.

[  Question ]

Is the description  of CHG_FET and DSG_FET reverse?

  For instance

DSG FET will turn off for the OCC faults.....    We thinking OCC is Over Charge Current .

turn off the CHG FET during an overcurrent in discharge (OCD),.......    OCD is DisCharge .

Is the description of TRM really correct ?

We need to create control software, but we are confused.

Could you tell us about is this Correct or not Correct ??

Thanks and Regard

  • Hi March,
The description in 3.1.4 is correct.
When there is a discharge current protection event the DSG output (FET) will go off. The choice in the parameter is whether the CHG FET should also go off or stay on. By default CC_DSG_OFF is 0 and the charge FET will stay on during a discharge current fault. If the designer wants to turn off the charge FET also, set the bit to 1.
Similarly when there is a charge current fault the CHG FET will be turned off. By default the DC_CHG_OFF bit is 0 so the gauge will leave the DSG FET on. If the designer wants to turn off the discharge FET also, set the bit to 1.
Turning off the opposite FET from the protection would prevent current in the opposite direction. Consider this when selecting recovery options for the fault.
There is a typo, the CC_DSG_OFF bit described in 3.1.4 is shown in the section 3.1.1 table and bit description as CC_CHG_OFF. I will mark this for correction in a future revision.
  • Hi

Thank you very much this answer.
    I understood about this one.
