TPS55010: Does this meet 60601 and 60950 requirements?

Part Number: TPS55010

Hello,

Does anyone know if this part can be used in applications requiring 60601 or 60950 requirements? I'm no expert, but the pin spacing is only 0.25mm or so, which seems like it wouldn't meet creepage and clearance requirements. The datasheet states "Promotes Safety in Medical Equipment" but nothing about being compliant to the standards.
My understanding (for my 5V charging system):
Clearance:
60601: 1mm  (1 MOPP)
60950: 0.4mm

Creepage:
60601: 2mm (1 MOPP)
60950: 1.1mm
Thanks,
  • Robert,
It looks like those standards are not available for free on line. I'll have to see if we have access to them. The primary support person for this device is out of the office for the next week.

If you have a copy you can share, let me know.
  • Hi Robert,

I am not very familiar with these requirements but I am thinking they most likely only apply to components that will go across the isolation barrier. This means when using the TPS55010 the main component which needs to meet these requirements is the transformer. To make sure you meet these requirements, you will want to work with a transformer vendor to make sure the one you use is designed to meet them.

Like John said, if you have copy you can share, it would help.

Also, if you don't mind sharing, what are you looking to use the TPS55010 to power?

    Best Regards,
    Anthony
  • Thanks all.

I can't share the specs. They cost a lot of money online and it wouldn't be legal to share.

After thinking about it more, I agree with Anthony. The creepage and clearance makes sense for the isolation boundary, not between power and ground.

This part serves as isolation between the input USB power and the rest of the embedded system. See the Halo Sport for an idea of our products:
