BQ40Z60: Remove SDM Bit Operation Status B

Part Number: BQ40Z60

Hello,

I am using a BQ40z60 chip in a custom-designed circuit, and my question is regarding the SDM Bit in Operation Status B.

Currently SDM is set (red); therefore, XCHG and XDSG are both set (red) as well. I am attempting to discharge the battery, which requires XDSG to not be set (green).

What steps are needed to unset the SDM bit (turn it green), which would then unset XDSG as well? I have tried 2 different options to achieve this:

1) Provided a voltage to VACP pin of the BQ40z60 greater than Power->Shutdown->Charger Threshold Voltage

2) Reset the device using the RESET command

3) Cycled SYS_PRES from Set to Unset, and then Set again

None of these attempts helped.

Are there any other recommended thresholds to be adjusted?

Thank you!

  • Hi James,

No, those are the conditions. If your pack is non removable you may consider setting NR to 1 in the DA Configuration register. Also make sure that the shutdown command isn't sent. You can connect the charger to close your FETs. The FETs are also not enabled by default. You will have to send the command once to enable them.
