WEBENCH® Tools/TPS63070: Duty Cycle Limit

Part Number: TPS63070
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS630242

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello E2E,

I have a customer who put in the following parameters:

My inputs: Vin: 2.7 to 5.25

Vout: 3.3

Iout: I want 1.5A

Ambient Temp 30C

Set the BOM adjuster to Highest Efficiency

He and I both have the same issue when we play around with the tool.  With the Iout above 1.05A, Webench gives an error saying that the "Calculated duty cycle exceeds limit." At 1.0A, the duty cycle is 34.7%, 1.05A, 36.6%.  I don't see how I could be exceeding limits at 1.5A.  I also get a Part Cant Simulate message.

Any ideas what is going on here?

Thanks!

Russell

  • Hello Russell,

TPS63070 is optimized for higher input and output voltages. Please have a look at Figures 18 and 20 to observe the load current reduction at low input voltages.
When I used this design, I could not get the failure message that the "Calculated duty cycle exceeds limit", but I also get a message that the part cannot be used for this design.

If you use Webench to decide for the integrated parts that are able to support these requirements, TPS63070 is not in the list. Please recommend the customer to use e.g. TPS630242.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
