AFE TS1 pin question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930

At bq76930 datasheet, 7.4.2 SHIP Mode
Waking from SHIP mode to NORMAL mode requires pulling the TS1 pin greater than
VBOOT, which triggers the device boot-up sequence.

My question is that
When AFE already boot up and works normal,
at this time, TS1 pin stays HIGH(greater than VBOOT)?
if I pull the TS1 pin again? Will AFE boot up again or ignore it? or do something else?

Thanks

  • Hi Matt,

Is this the same question as the following?

    Thanks

  • Hi Matt,
If the circuit which provides boot comes on again after boot, the part does not boot again or reset. If the bq76930 is set to measure the thermistors for temperature, adding a voltage to the TS1 pin will alter the voltage and apparent temperature. If the boot circuit sums a voltage onto the node which raises the voltage, this makes it look colder since the design uses a NTC thermistor. Similarly if the circuit loads the TS1 pin it will make the temperature seem higher.
A signal from a MCU which is always on is a good way to boot the bq76930. A diode might be used so the boot signal does not load the TS1 pin after boot. You might see the boot switch alternatives apnote in the product folder.
  • Hi,
If the circuit which provides boot comes on again after boot, the part does not boot again or reset.
==>Do you mean that in normal mode, TS1 pin high or low does not affect the AFE(boot again or reset)? AFE ignore TS1 pin in normal mode?

    Thanks
  • Hi Matt,
Yes, once the part is booted from ship mode it ignores any further boot signals. It uses the TS1 pin for temperature measurement if that is enabled. TS1 does not cause re-boot from normal mode or reset.
