LM317: LM317 Internal Function Block Question

Hi Support Team,

My customer has a question regarding the internal function block of LM317. The ST LM317 has the internal path from OUTPUT to INPUT when OUTPUT is higher than INPUT, does our LM317 have the same path inside? Our function block did not show this and help us to verify it.

Hi Wei-Hao,

We do not have an intentional path for reverse current in LM317. If reverse current conditions (Vout exceeds Vin) are expected, we recommend placing an external diode from out to in. This diode will provide a robust path for the reverse current.
