LMS3655: About Input capacitor

Part Number: LMS3655

Hello,

Currently, due to difficulty in supplying ceramic capacitors,my customers are considering replacing them with electrolytic capacitors or conductive polymer capacitors.

Therefore, for the following parts,
Please tell me whether they can replace ceramic capacitors with electrolytic capacitors.
We appreciate your cooperation.

○ Input capacitor used for LMS3655 : Cin

The data sheet contains the following description.

"The device requires a minimum of 20 µF of ceramic capacitance at the input."

Thank you.

  • Hello,

For the LMS3655, you will need 2 ceramic high frequency capacitors on either side of the device. For the bulk capacitance, you can use a hybrid of low ESR electrolytic capacitance and ceramic capacitance. I would recommend a smaller ceramic capacitance placed close to the LMS3655 input (ie. 1x4.7uF) and then paired with 22uF - 33uF electrolytic capacitor (low ESR - possibly Al-polymer).
