TPS40210: TPS40210 SS PIN resister function

Part Number: TPS40210

Hi

1: customer use TPS40210 boost to 19V to power amplifer, they use 600k+100pf to set the freqency, it works well at this time, but when they change the resister to 576K(cap=100pf), then TPS40210 can not power up. the load is 4ohm speaker, and is continue connecting. speaker output power is 22W. why TPS40210 can not power up when change the freqency ?

2: about the SS pin. we found that SS pin connect one 10K resister at the datasheet reference schematic and the EVM schematic, but not add this 10K at PMP6595 (reference design file). and I find no description about this resister in the datasheet. What condition need add this resister ? and what  function is it ?

  • 1. 600k to 576k will only increase the switching a little, and it sounds strange for not able to power up. Can you double check the new resistor value is really 576k not something quite different?

    2. The 10k resistor does not seem to do much: it is much smaller than the internal charging and discharging impedance. It does change the timing a lot, and can be used to fine tune the timing which is not available by doing with the capacitor alone, because capacitor value jumps. Other than this, I don't see other purpose the original designer put it there.
