BQ78350-R1: OCD (Over Current Discharge) Safety Alert

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940,

Hello, I am using BQ78350-R1 with BQ76940. Everything was Ok. But now, OCD safety alert is detected and OCD flag is activated without any discaherge current. And then this flag can not be cleared with charging, reset and clear permanent failuer commands.

Please urgent help. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Yusuf,
Check the OCD threshold setting in Data Memory. Default is -6000. If the sign is dropped and the value entered as a positive number the gauge will behave as you describe. In the gauge current and thresholds are generally signed with charge current positive and discharge current negative. If the threshold i s still negative look at the reported current to see if it shows to be less than the threshold magnitude. If the current reports large, check to see if the current calibration may have been entered incorrectly. You might re-load firmware to clear settings.
If these do not resolve the issue check for residual voltages on the SRP or SRN pins of the bq76940, the device may have been damaged in evaluation.
