TPS7A7001: Startup behavior

Part Number: TPS7A7001

Hi,

I would like to understand the startup behavior of TPS7A7001. Does this part have any power limit? Why does the input voltage have step behavior first and why does the curve smooth out even without using Cff?

2. Why do you have max recommended capacitance for this part. Is it due to minimum ESR? Is it possible to use larger capacitance with high ESR POSCAP in customer design.

  • Hi Jayanth,

It looks like your current is ringing which is what is causing the output startup to not be a smooth startup.  With high output capacitance the current limit for TPS7A7001 is not stable.  Due to inrush current from the output capacitors, the current limit will be engaged during startup.  In order to achieve a smooth startup and the performance as outlined in the datasheet, please be sure to follow the Recommended Operating Conditions and requirements.  If you are not able to limit your output capacitance to 200 uF or less, please consider a different LDO that is stable with a higher output capacitance.

    Very Respectfully,

    Ryan
