BQ34Z100-G1: The FC bit is not updated

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi
I've calibrated my Lead Acid battery parameters successfully.

I'm stuck in the third step of the Learning Cycle, my procedures are the following:

1)discharge the battery to empty. [RUP_DIS] bit is set. (That's OK)
2)Relax for 5 hours. VOK and [RUP_DIS] were cleared. (That's OK)
3)Charge the battery to full. (Here's my problem). FC bit must be set at this point, but it's always clear. In calibration step, I charged FC set %=-1.

How can I get FC bit updated?
I attached my data flash configuration and my battery datasheet files.

According to datasheet which is the value of "tapper current" for the battery I use?

Thanks in advance.

  • Most likely the taper current conditions are not being met in this case. It will be easier to confirm with a bqStudio log file if this is the case.
The Taper current setting is in the data flash ("Configuration","Charge Termination","Taper Current","500","mAmp") and is set in your gg file to 500mA.
I would recommend increasing it to 750mA or even 1000mA to see fi it will detect the charge taper.

  • Hi Swaminathan Ramanathan,

Thanks for your reply. I got it, i used a 100mA taper current. However i've been reading posts about PbA Batteries where they don't talk about FC bit. How much important is FC bit in learning cycle for PbA Batteries as the recomends turn around the OCVTAKEN bit ?, Now i have a problem with learning status register. According to docuent i've attached, in step (d) learning Status must be 0x05, but I'ts 0x04.

    a)Discharge battery to empty.
    b)Relax for 5 hours.
    c)Charge battery to full.
    d)Relax for 2 hours.
    e) Discharge battery to empty.
    f )Relax for 5 hours.

I attach my log and data Memory files:

  • PbA doesn't work like normal cells. For it to have an OCV you need to charge it first. You will take the DOD on first charge. Then relax until OCVTAKEN is set. Then dsg until empty and relax again until OCVTAKEN is set. At this point you will get Qmax and Update Status will go to 0x05. Then repeat it to get Ra updates and the Update Status will change to 0x06. Once you have this, the learning cycle is complete.
