BQ34110: What determines EOS learn charge current when using DISCHARGE-BEFORE-CHARGE?

Part Number: BQ34110

We don't have a programmable voltage charging mechanism so we think we HAVE to use DISCHARGE-BEFORE-CHARGE ([LSM] = 1) to use EOS. In the TRM, 2.11.1.2 Learn Charge Phase, it does not specify what parameters dictate the current that will be requested during the Learn Charge Phase. If we are not using the bq34110 requested current for charging (we control charging with our own algorithm), what happens if we charge at a current that is 100 mA higher (~30% higher than the 210mA of Learn Charge Current) than the bq is requesting? Will that be a problem?

  • Hi Mark,

The EOS algo isn't concerned with the current during the charge phase, just the timeout period for reaching charge termination. So as long as you eventually do reach termination before timeout, that should suffice.

    Thanks,

    Terry
