TPS650250: Thermal pad soldering

Hi team,

Could you tell me whether the thermal pad soldering must be done? If it's not connected to the internal analog gnd on the chip, and just for thermal dissipation improvement, the customer wonders if they can use it without thermal pad soldering. Thank you for your support.

    Hella Sasaki-san,

    The datasheet says to connect thermal pad to analog ground, so it may have an internal connection to ground. I would recommend to solder the thermal pad to GND on the PCB. Is there a reason they don't want to have a ground pad?

    I'm looping in the device expert as well, in case he has any additional information.

    Hi Karl,

    Thank you for your comments. In my industrial customer asking such question, they want to easily remove the IC for reworking with poor field support tool in case the IC is broken after shipping.
