LM25085: Purpose of PFET(external Switch) for this regulator.

Part Number: LM25085

Hi Team,

There is a  concern regarding the PFET (external switch) that is used at the output side of the regulator.

Like in our PCB there is a mistake happened like the drain and the source terminal of the PFET are connected wrongly due to wrong footprint , Is there any option that I can resolve this or can I use this regulator without FET by shorting drain and source or by any other discretes(resistors).

The package of the PFET is TO252 and part that I used is FDD5614P where Pin 1 is Gate, Pin 2 is Drain, Pin 3 is Source will I get same package transistor with PIN 1 Gate, PIn 2 Source and Pin 3 Drain, please suggest?

what is the exact purpose of this PFET , can I leave the PGATE pin floating, Please suggest?

Regards,

Karthik

  • Hi,

Unfortunately, you would need this external PFET for the regulator to work properly.
As for PFET selection, you can try digikey.com to search for appropriate FET with the connection that you desired.
So far most of the TO-252 package that i have seen have pin 2 as drain

    Thanks
