TLV733P: Why LDO needs cap and why TLV733 works cap free

Part Number: TLV733P

Hello,

Typical LDO seems to need capacitor at input and/or output capacitor. If this type of LDO use cap-less, is the LDO oscillation?

TLV733 says capfree LDO. What is the different?

Best regards,

Toshihiro Watanbae

  • Hi Toshihiro,

Many LDOs do require external capacitors in order to compensate the internal control loop. Modern designs and architectures such as the one used for TLV733P are able to achieve stability without the external capacitor compensation. The following Application Report goes into a bit more about LDO Regulator Stability:

It is important to keep in mind that LDOs can be used in a variety of applications with application specific requirements. Even though TLV733P is stable without an external capacitor, you may still choose to use an external capacitor to achieve your application specific performance requirements such as transient response.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
