LM5050-1: 5V Application Question

Part Number: LM5050-1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2412

Hi!

I am currently planning on using the LM5050-1 for an ORing circuit with a nominal 5V supply. The minimum voltage range on this rail could reach 4.75V (5% tolerance worst case across temperature). I saw on another post the comment below:

"We don't guarantee operation below 5V. But however device would work slightly below 5.0V, till about 4.9V." (https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/switches/f/949/t/684316?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=LM5050-1

Could you elaborate more on the failure mode that we could expect if the voltage did drop below 5V?

Thanks!

  • Hi

When operated below 5V, Gate control may not work properly, which means that external FET will be turned off and it will dissipated lot of power due to body diode conduction.

Could you consider using TPS2412 or LM74700?
TPS2412 is released device and LM74700 is in preview stage.

    Regards,
    Kari.
