LM4040: Maximum Power supply voltage

Part Number: LM4040

Dear, support team.

The absolute maximum rating of the LM4040 has no regulation of the power supply voltage.
"8.2.2.2 Cathode and Load Currents" in the data sheet description.
"At the other extreme, maximum VS and minimum IL, RS must be large enough to limit IZ to less than its maximum-rated value of 15 mA."
Is the power supply voltage unlimited if it is within 15 mA as RS setting?

Please advise me about the supply voltage.

Best Regards,
Hiroaki Yuyama

  • Hi Hiroaki-San,

Yes, technically the supply voltage has no limit as long as RS is set to limit the cathode current under 15mA. Keep in mind that the larger the supply voltage, more power will be dissipated in the resistor.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

    Regards,

    Ethan

  • Hi Ethan-san,

    Thank you for your Answer.

I understood that there is no regulation of voltage by current limit.
I propose to the customer a current limit of less than 15 mA.

    Best Regards,
    Hiroaki Yuyama
