LMZM33602: Recommended Output Capacitors ESR

Part Number: LMZM33602

Dear, support team.

How much ESR should the ESR value in Table 5. Recommended Output Capacitors in the data sheet be within the Full temperature range?
Please advise me about ESR in the Full temperature range.

Best Regards,
Hiroaki Yuyama

  • Hi Hiroaki-san,

The output capacitors that are used on the LMZM33602EVM are the "GRM32ER71E226KE15L" which have an ESR around 2mOhms. These have been tested for full temperature range operation. I'd recommend having only ceramic output capacitors(~2mOhms) which will help with load regulation.

    Regards,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy-san,

    Thank you for your Advice.

I understood that the ESR of the ceramic capacitor is 2 m ohm or less at the full range temperature.
I propose to connect the ceramic capacitor and POSCAP in parallel to the customer.

  • Hi Hiroaki-san,

I don't think that should be a problem as long as you follow the recommended output capacitance on Table 1. Too large of an output capacitance over the maximum recommendations can cause the part to be stuck in hiccup mode.

  • Hi Jimmy-san,

    Thank you for your Repray.

    From Dataseet "7.3.7 Output Capacitors"
"When adding additional capacitance, above COUT(min), the capacitance may be ceramic type, low-ESR polymer type, or a combination of the two.

I propose to the customer not to exceed the Cout condition by setting the output voltage from Table 1 and Table 2.
