TPS82085: Can TPS82085 be used in medical device?

Part Number: TPS82085

Hi,

We are using a TPS82085 in oursystem and are preparing for medical application. I heard that someone told me that TPS82085  can't be used in medical device.

I want to hear from TI directly regarding this.

Regards,

James

  • Hi James,

What type of medical application do you have?

At the end of the datasheet, we have our standard terms for catalog products, which includes:
Designers must ensure compliance with safety-related requirements and standards applicable to their applications. Designer may not use any TI products in life-critical medical equipment unless authorized officers of the parties have executed a special contract specifically governing such use.
Life-critical medical equipment is medical equipment where failure of such equipment would cause serious bodily injury or death (e.g., life
support, pacemakers, defibrillators, heart pumps, neurostimulators, and implantables). Such equipment includes, without limitation, all
medical devices identified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as Class III devices and equivalent classifications outside the U.S.
  • Hi James,

Does that explain it? Do you have a life-critical application?
  • Thanks. We are good to use a TPS82085 in our system. Our application is not for a life-critical use.

    James
