TLC5928: TLC5928 getting overheat

Part Number: TLC5928

Hi Team,

TLC5928 Ic getting heated in my circuit. Please find the attached screenshot for reference.

Note: Blank pin is always grounded as per below circuit

Please help me to resolve this issue.

    Thanks in advance

Regards,

Dinesh

  • Hi, Dinesh,

What's the forward voltage of your LEDs?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Kenneth,

Thanks your your support. Please find below screenshot for the details

        Thanks in advance

  • Hi, Dinesh,

It's 25mA for your circuit for each channel.

Vf should be less than 3.1V at 25mA for your LED.

Taking 3V for estimation, the power dissipation of the driver is around P = (5-3)*25*16mW=800mW.

So what's the package you are using?

    Tanking HTSSOP-24 for example, the temperature is 25 + 800/28.9 = 53C.

You can also check about your package. If the temperature rise is too high please adjust your 5V Vled to lower voltage.

    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kenneth
  • Hi Kenneth,

    Thanks for your valuable input.
    We are using SSOP-24 package and the temperature is 25 + 800/14.5 = 80C.
    1. Is 80C is acceptable for this SSOP-24 package?
    2. Will the IC get malfunction at this temperature in any possible situation?

Note: As per datasheet, temperature range is 150C for SSOP-24 package

    Kindly advice.

    Regards,
