TLV755P: Drop Out

Part Number: TLV755P

Customer is looking for recommendations on LDO for 1.8V input to 1.2V output at 300 mA up to 65C ambient.  They are considering TLV755P but concerned with drop out voltage as specified on Page 5 of the data sheet:
1.0 V ≤ VOUT < 1.2 V 550 780

Will this be a concern at 300 mA?

WebBench recommended TLV73312P.

Please advise on best option.

Thanks,
Mark

  • Hi Mark,

    The 1.2 V output is actually included in the next line of the EC table with a typical of 500 mV and maximum of 630 mV at 500 mA.

    Dropout is linear with respect to output current; therefore, at 300 mA we can calculate a maximum dropout using ratios:

    Vdomax300 / 300 mA = Vdomax / 500 mA

    Vdomax300 = (630 mV / 500 mA) x 300 mA

    Vdomax300 = 378 mV

    With our calculated maximum dropout for 300 mA, your application has enough headroom to maintain regulation.

    Very Respectfully,

    Ryan
