LM5166: Do I get constant current operation when current limit is active?

Hi!

Wanted to check if I LM5166 will regulate constant current by lowering output voltage when over current is active?

I need current limited power source that does not turn off in case of overcurrent vut reduces output vltage.

Vin = 45V, Vout = 44V, Ilim = 300ma

Try LM317HV + resistor? as a current sources.

Hi Christopher,

So do you need to regulate current or voltage?
Are you worry about the power supply output shutting down in a case of overload?

I need regulated current 300mA with Vmax=44V

DCDC + resistor will net be solution because I will have load that's dynamically changin and that load need to get no more than 300mA

Hi,

I would try using the LM317 first because in LM5166 the current protection is not quite meant to regulate current.

I looked closer at LM317 and think it could be useful.
Thought initially that cristopher suggested just a DCDC + resistor as load.

Yeah since it is a protection type of mechanism in the LM5166, there is no loop that tightly regulate the current.
Unless you want to use a current sense resistor and drive your load like an LED
