TLC5955: Short detection of two outputs?

Part Number: TLC5955

Hi team,

my customer is developing a LED Array with hundreds of LEDs. The TLC offers a way to check if a LED is connected properly (LOD Bit) or if one LED has a short (LSD Bit).

Now, is it possible to detect if two outputs have a short, e.g. due to a solder ball, i.e. in case two outputs are shorted and both LEDs are illuminated once one of the 2 outputs are controlled.

Is there a way to generate a PWM Pattern to check if there are no shorts between two pins?

I am looking forward to your inputs!

Thank you and kind regards,

Felix

  • Hi, Felix,

As you can see from the datasheet about the LSD machanism, it can't be detected by using LSD if two outputs have a short.

From software side, you can turn on OUTR0 to OUTB15 once a time and check the LED status. If two LEDs turn on at the same time it tells a short between these two channels.

Please let me know if this solves your problem.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kenneth
