LM53625-Q1: Soldering to HASL PCB

Part Number: LM53625-Q1

Does TI have any information on soldering the VQFN-HR package RNL to a HASL finished PCB using an oven reflow process?  Thank you.

  • Hi Mark,

Let me find the right contact for this and get back to you.

  • Mark,

Here is the reponse I received upon further enquiry:

Hot Air Solder Leveling (HASL) is an old method of putting surface finish on PCB. It basically send a PCB through a wave soldering machine to add a layer of solder. The solder thickness is difficult to control.

Due to the unevenness of the solder height, we don’t recommend this type of PCB for any kind of leadless component (like QFN) or packages with fine pitch (0.5mm or below).

RNL is a HotRod with QFN footprint package. There are several pins with 0.5mm pitch. Unless the PCB is changed to a different finish (OSP, ENIG etc), we wouldn’t recommend mounting RNL on a HASL PCB.
