TPS61099: Iin will increase when we move incandescent light bulb closely

Part Number: TPS61099

Dear team,

My customer tested our TPS61099EVM and they discovered that input current (Iin) will have twice difference with and without incandescent light bulb.

Below is their test condition:

Vin: 1.5V

Vout: 5V/ no load

1) When the bulb did not turn on, Iin is around 21uA.

2) When the bulb turn on, Iin will become 2x larger (43uA) immediately (within 1sec). So I think it is not cause by heat.

3) incandescent light bulb

Could you please let us know the reason and how to solve it ( Iin not influence by incandescent light bulb)?

Customer chose TPS61099 to extend battery life because of ultra low iq. Their user case will always have light surrounding which means this effect will decrease battery life.

Thank you.

  • Hello Polly

I don't know what happen here. We may need to buy this kind of bulb and try to reproduce this issue.

Does the issue disappear if you cover the IC? What is the end equipment? could we try to avoid light on the IC in real application?
  • Dear Jasper,

The issue will disappear when TPS61099 is covered by black plastic box. And their EE is window sensor, so they can not avoid light in real application. They have white box outside our chip, but the light still can pass through box. Actually, they need to pass this test before their product is released to market. Please help let us know the reason and how to solve it. Thank you.
