[FAQ] TPS65911: How to change the default sequence and voltage settings?

Part Number: TPS65911

When designing with the TPS65911, you may want to select different EEPROM settings than the default configuration provided by one of the TPS65911 device spins.  Can you change the default configuration?

  • The TPS65911 EEPROM configuration is programmed at the TI factory, so they cannot be modified in the end application.  But there are a couple options to use the TPS65911 device with a different sequence or voltage settings.

    1. The "Test Boot" function can be used by floating the BOOT1 pin, in combination with a microcontroller on the board.  In this case, all power-up sequence is bypassed and the outputs will be off.  A microcontroller can send I2C writes to the TPS65911 in order, to sequence the rails manually.  For example, set VDD1 output voltage to 1.05V, then enable VDD1.  Set LDO1 to 1.8V, then enable LDO1.  In this way, the application can set the default voltages and power sequence.
    2. If an existing configuration is close enough to the requirements you need, you could change the output voltage after start-up.  For example, if you just need to change a single output voltage from 1.1V to 1.2V, you may be able to boot up with the default EEPROM at 1.1V, and then configure the output voltage to 1.2V using I2C.

To see the existing EEPROM configurations, and the processors they support, see the "User Guides" section of the TPS65911 product folder.
