BQ34Z100-G1: Using Battery Management Studio with multiple devices

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25703A, , EV2400, BQSTUDIO

I'm working on a project with both bq34z100-g1 fuel gauge and bq25703a charger IC. Both of these are on a single I2C bus, connected to an EV2400 interface.

When I start battery management studio, it immediately sees the bq34z100-g1, and works as I would expect when connected to this device.

If I disconnect the bq34z100-g1 device (I can remove a couple of resistors that isolate it from the I2C bus), then when I start battery management studio, I see a menu that lets me select the appropriate BQZ file for the charger, and I can successfully communicate with the charger IC.

My issue is that I don't know how to select which device to communicate with when both are on the I2C bus. It would be ideal if I could switch between the two devices as required, but it would also be OK if I could select which to connect to when I start battery management studio.

I'm running battery management studio 1.3.54 on Win7 Pro.

  • Hi David,

When bringing up the device, unplug the USB connection between the computer and the EV2400. Launch bqStudio. BqStudio will then prompt you for which device to select. Select your preferred device and bqStudio will load the selected device profile. Then plug the usb cable back in without restarting bqStudio. Ensure the device is powered and you should see the icons on the left hand dashboard 'light up' as the device connects.

To switch between the devices at will, please unplug the usb cable and restart bqStudio, following the process as described above to switch.

It is recommended to use the latest version of bqStudio found under 'bqstudiotest' at www.ti.com/.../bqstudio

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
