TPS3850: WATCHDOG

Guru 13485 points
Part Number: TPS3850
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3851, TPS3813, TPS3431, TPS3430

Is TPS3850 is the right solution for:

I am looking for watchdog, Or any other devise

We have problem, Which happens very rarely, but I have to find a solution

When the VCC 3v wakeup, the MCU did not wakeup

The only way to come out from this state, is to turn OFF and on again the VCC

  • Eli,

Yes TPS3850 is a window watchdog and has a programmable watchdog and watchdog reset delay. It also has voltage monitoring. TPS3851 is a standard watchdog with fixed delay of 200ms but still programmable watchdog timeout.

TPS3813 is another option for programmable watchdog or if you just want a basic watchdog device you can use TPS382x family.

If you do not need voltage monitoring, we are releasing new Watchdog only devices this week called TPS3430 and TPS3431. Please provide feedback on the suggested devices and provide more details on your application for further support. Thanks!

  • Thanks Michael

Do we have similar device to the TPS3813,but with Enable pin for sleep mode?

    Eli

  • Unfortunately TPS3813 is the only device we have like that but doesn't have enable/disable. You can use TPS3851 for programmable watchdog timeout, fixed reset delay, and Enable/Disable.

Please provide feedback if TPS3851 will work for you. We have a watchdog only device coming out with the watchdog only functionality of the TPS3850 and TPS3851 if these devices watchdog work for you.

  • Hi Eli,

I have a curious question does the processor resume functionality when the RESET pin is toggle or you must have to remove VDD power. if you have to remove VDD power then you would need to toggle the EN pin on the power supply (i.e. DC/DC or LDO )
Please let me know what microprocessor part are you using and the DC converter part number I will look into it and recommend you the best solution for the system. if you feel more comfortable sharing the details over email feel free to write me at antony.carvajales@ti.com
