BQ27421-G1: RA update during usage with minimal discharged rest time

Part Number: BQ27421-G1

Hi,

I have a customer who is in the final stages of testing the BQ27421-G1 and they're concerned that their device will have minimal discharged rest time between charge/discharge cycles (<10minutes ). The device should alternate between fully charged and fully discharged regularly to provide a complete charge/discharge cycle. They were able to adequately perform a learning cycle on the battery but these rest periods will not be available during normal operation. Will this be an issue for updating the RA table as the battery starts to age?

Thanks,

James

  • Hi James,
Resistance tables will update just fine during discharge. However, the concern is for qmax updates which is what requires the rest period. This gauge has a feature called fast qmax that doesn't require rest periods. This was feature was implemented for applications just yours. You just need to make sure the gauge gets fully charged and gets fully discharged as well. For additional details of fast qmax, pls refer to the TRM of the gauge.

    thanks
    Onyx
