TPS43060: What happens when Vin is equal to the set Vout.

Part Number: TPS43060

Dear Specialists,

My customer is evaluating TPS43060 and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

Power requirement

Vin:12V/24V

Vout:24V

Iout:3A

When I am confirming TPS43060 on Vin24V and Vout24V, it seems to be still operating(switching).

In such condition(Vin=Vout), I was thinking about device is not switching.

I'd like to know the reason of switching.

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,

To completely stop switching the VIN voltage will need to higher than the VOUT target voltage. Due to non-ideal elements of the power train (inductor, MOSFETs, Output capacitor) switching will still continue but will be at the minimum on time pulse.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
  • Hi Garrett,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand the phenomenon of the customer, Vin and Vout are very close, so the operation does not stop completely.

I'll share your information with the customer.

    I appreciate your great help.

    Best regards,
    Shinichi
