LM5176: Request more detail LM5176 data

Part Number: LM5176
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5118

I want to ask more LM5176 detail because of client's requirement.

Please provide LM5176 maximum, minimun and average slew rate for SW pin.

  • And check if customer can replace the SR FET with diodes?
If customer can replace it, are there any downside effects?
  • Hi Wei Hsin,

The slew rate of the switch node is going to based on the MOSFETs that are selected and the application specifications. The LM5176 gate driver characteristics are specified in the datasheet. A gate resistor can be added to slow down the SW node rise and fall time. However this gate resistor will negatively impact efficiency.

If the customer wants to replace the MOSFETs with diodes than please use the LM5118 which is designed for this operation. Replacing the MOSFETs with diode will decrease the efficiency.

    Thanks,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett
I can not find the limitation of slew rate in the datasheet. Can you tell me?
    Thank you.
    Ruth
  • Hi Garrett

Could you please check the SW, BOOT, DRV pin be damaged if the dv/dt slew rate is too high?

Customer did a X-ray scan and they found the pin26~28 was damaged under buck/boost mode, but we are unable to capture any over-stress waveform. Also we tried to add +8V Zener on the BOOT pin but pin was still damaged, so the customer is suspecting the pin might be damaged due to high dv/dt.
